Low vs high pile carpets
At Birstall Mill Carpets, we are one of the most recognised and experienced carpet dealers in Birstall, making us best suited to answer questions for many homeowners in the region.
One of the most frequent questions that our Birstall based staff get asked is ‘what is the difference between low and high pile carpet’ and ‘which one will be better for my home’. Whilst we generally need to advise each of our customers individually due to certain factors contributing to whether you need low or high pile carpets, there are some general carpet principles that are constant throughout and may be able to advise you quickly.
So what does the term ‘pile’ mean?
Pile is simply a way of describing the fabric loops that make up any carpet. All carpets are made up of fibres, which sit differently on each carpet to control their softness, colour and texture. High pile carpets have taller and loose fibres and include shag carpets, meanwhile low pile carpets are made up of shorter fibres with tighter loops, such as Berber and Saxony carpets.
Benefits of a high pile carpet:
- They are generally more comfortable and cosy
- Because of their softness they are better for lying and sitting on
- They are seen as much more luxurious and stylish
- These carpets will stay much more fluffy without flattening over time
Benefits of a low pile carpet:
- Much better for people who suffer with allergies
- They don’t take as long to vacuum and clean
- It has a smoother surface
- It is more suited for homes where you need to move furniture regularly
At Birstall Mill Carpets, we stock as vast range of both high pile and low pile carpets and can help Birstall homeowners struggling to find the best carpet for their home. If you would like to hear more about our carpet options call us on (NUMBER) or pop into our Birstall showroom.
