What type of carpet is best for pets?

The two most common factors pet owners are concerned with when buying a new carpet is whether it will last a long time and if it is stain resistant. This is because there will be a fair amount of traffic on the carpet – both from family members as well as the cat(s) or dog(s). There will also inevitably be the odd accident or two where a four legged friend is concerned, so it’s important to be able to clean up any mess easily and for it not to show up for years to come.

With this in mind it’s best to choose a carpet which is stain-resistant to make cleaning as hassle free as possible. Nylon tends to be a common choice to the fact it is durable and also relatively stain resistant. There are also specially designed carpets on the market which have been manufactured to stop pet mess soaking through to the padding to help prevent bacteria and lingering bad smells.

It’s also a good idea to choose a colour that will hide potential stains or pet hair more readily than others. Just like you probably wouldn’t invest in a white or cream carpet if you had young children, the same goes for with cats or dogs who are prone to malt as well as come into the house with muddy paws. Some pet owners decide to opt for carpet tiles rather rolls too, so that if there is a problem, the tile can be quickly replaced as and when necessary.
