Firstly, blot up a spillage with a clean cloth or kitchen paper. Quick action is key to success with stains. Avoid rubbing, which may spread the stain. Before using any substance on your carpet, carefully test in an inconspicuous area.
- Try removing the stain with cold water, blotting up excess as you go.
- Add ¼ white vinegar to 1 part water.
- Use a carpet shampoo – check instructions carefully.
- Pour salt on the stain, leave to dry, then vacuum.
- Pour white wine on red wine, blot and dry.
- Pour beer over spilt tea or coffee, leave a few minutes, blot, rinse, blot again.
- Put Club soda on, leave a few minutes, then rinse and blot dry.
- Make a paste with 1 part baking soda to 3 parts water, work into stain without rubbing, leave to dry, then vacuum.
- Make a paste with equal parts white vinegar and baking soda, carefully work into stain without rubbing, leave to dry, then vacuum off.
- Make a mixture of ¼ cup warm water with ½ teaspoon liquid detergent (without bleach), and 1 tablespoon white vinegar.
- Mix ¼ teaspoon liquid detergent with 1 cup warm water.
- Hire a carpet cleaner. Follow instructions carefully, and your whole carpet should come up fresh and clean, and hopefully most stains will be gone too!
